Since it is possible to customize a tour by organizing it with Ibrahima, different legs of the 5 typical tours can be mixed.

On request, the tours in the Malinka region can be made in motor bike.

Tour # 1:

3-weeks duration

Bamako – Ségou – Mopti – Douenzan – Hambouri – Timbuktu – Dogon region – Djenné – Bamako

Visit of the old city of Ségou and trip in pirogue on the Niger river to a potters village. Visit of Mopti, its harbour, markets and mosque. Visit of Douenzan and its surroundings before heading to Hambouri to discover Fatima’s Hand, a hill recalling this religious symbol. Trip to Timbuktu and visit of the city and its mosque, ride on camel back in the desert, meeting the Tuareg, back to Mopti by pirogue on the Niger river before heading to the Dogon region. Visit of the plateau, the cliff and of the flats, characteristic features of this famous area. Back to Djenné and visit of the mosque, religious building with its unique architecture, time given to discover its fantastic market. Back to Bamako to discover the city in an unusual way, notably by a visit to a large forge.

2-weeks duration

Bamako – Ségou – Mopti – Timbuktu or Dogon region (according to guests preference) – Bamako

Tour # 3

1-week duration

Bamako – Ségou – Kalabougou – San – Bamako

A village reached by pirogue, Kalabougou is renowned for its pottery, important trade in the region. Visit of the city of San, its market, and detour by Teriabougou, a Bobo village where the balafon (instrument similar to xylophone) and dances linked to this music are to be discovered.

Tour # 4

1-week duration

Bamako – Malinka region – Bamako

Discovery of the Malinka region, from where Ibrahima and a number of west-African ethnic groups hail. Road trip to Sybi and visit of the falls, Kamandjan’s arch, Fafamba’s cave and the weekly village market. Crossing of the bamboo forest, rest-stop and visit to a goldwashing site. Continuation of the trip towards Kangaba, oldest Mandé town (former empire of Soundjata Kéta), visit of Kroukanfouga (mythic place where the emperor himself would have decreed the Mandé Charter, in the 13th century), visit of the Mandé sacred hut, rebuilt every seven years amongst festivities and rejoicing. One night in Kéla, village from where Ibrahima originates, and discovery of the culture, the functions and the art of the griots, keepers of the tradition in the Malinka society. Trekking to the Niger river, crossing and visit of the surrounding fishermen villages, discovery of many natural beaches and detour by Wakaron, old slaves transit point along the river. Continuation to the Sélengué dam, visit of the village and of the dam. Journey back to Bamako.
